BBC Green Planet

Deep underground on BBC’s The Green Planet. Here’s a look at the procedural growth system I built in Houdini to simulate the complex mycelium networks that trees use to communicate. Hands down one of the most rewarding creative coding and FX challenges I've worked on!

The Green Planet (BBC)

An incredibly unique challenge for BBC’s The Green Planet. I had the absolute pleasure of building the procedural system used to grow and animate the underground mycelium networks.

Visualising the hidden "Wood Wide Web" the vast fungal threads trees use to communicate and share nutrients required a fully dynamic, points based web setup. It was a fascinating mix of biological logic and high-end FX work to bring this hidden ecosystem to light!
